Visual Representation Portfolios - Year 3

During their Visual Representations topic, the Year 3 children have been learning all about digital portfolios. They used Google Slides to create their own digital portfolio of work to share with their parents during Student Led Conferences.

During this project, the children learnt so many new ICT skills and had plenty of opportunities to practice skills they already knew. Here is a (very long) list of skills they used during this topic:
  • Creating a Google Slide Presentation
  • Choosing a slide layout
  • Choosing a slide theme
  • Inserting text boxes
  • Changing font, font colour and size
  • Inserting and moving images
  • Cropping images
  • Rotating images
  • Adding slide transitions
  • Adding transitions to text and images
  • Understanding the different between "on click" and "with or after previous" transitions
PHEW!! That's a lot of skills!!!!!!!

OK - time to look at the results of all this hard work! Here are some example slides taken from a variety of different presentations! I hope you are impressed.

Year 3 Visual Representations: Van Gogh

As part of their Visual Representations topic, the year 3 children have been using the computers to recreate famous paintings of famous artists.

This week, we looked at some of Van Gogh's paintings. The children chose their favourite to draw on the computers.

We used the website Sumopaint, which has a huge number of different brush styles which helped the children draw some amazing pictures. They learnt how to change the brush type, size and colour, how to undo and redo and how to save their work once finished.

Here are some of the finished drawings.

Year 3 Visual Representations: Graffiti

The Year 3 children have been working hard creating a wide range of types of art.

This week in the ICT Suite, they used the website Graffiti Creator to design a colourful and fun name plate in a Graffiti style.

They then learnt how to take a screenshot on the computer in order to save their work and upload it to the Google Drive for storage.

Take a look at some of these colourful works of art!

Year 3: Photographs and Word Processing

I have been working with the Year 3 children to practice taking quality photographs using the iPads.

We spoke about what makes a good photograph and what not to do, and came up with a "Do's and Don't list" for each class.

The children then went to the Green Space with their class teachers and used that list to take various photographs. Once all the photographs had been uploaded to the Google Drive, the children used the computers to choose their favourite photograph and write about it.

Here are some of the chosen photographs:

Classifying dinosaurs in Year 3 using Popplet

One of the most versatile apps we have on all the yeargroup iPads is Popplet. At €4,49 is it well worth purchasing the full version of this app.

In year 3, we have been using it to classify dinosaurs. Since the children are already familiar with using the app as a brainstorming style app, it was easy for them to use it in a different way to help create a branching database to sort dinosaurs. Using the iPads and the app made a complicated task a little bit easier.

Here are some of the finished branching databases.

Year 3: Dinosaurs

The Year 3 children have started their new IPC topic Dinosaurs! This is such a fantastic topic, I love it! To start off their ICT lessons, we used the computers to draw their very own made up dinosaurs.

We used the website Sumopaint (which is available online or to download) and concentrated on using the following drawing tools:

Pencil (different sizes of thickness)
Paint Bucket
Colour Palette
Undo and Redo buttons
Text tool

Don't be scared - they may look fierce and scary, but I have been assured that some of them are Herbivores and the others, well ....... RUN!!!!

  • Re-writing knowledge gathered into the 1st person
To create their rainforest videos, they learnt how to use the following iPad apps
  • Strip Designer
  • Tellagami
  • VideoScribe
  • Morfo Booth
  • iMovie

The children really enjoyed creating these videos and are VERY proud with the finished results.

A playlist of all the videos can be found here......

I hope you enjoy them as much as the children enjoyed creating them!

Chocolate Websites

Year 3 have come to the end of their Chocolate IPC topic (BOO HOO - my favourite topic in the whole school!!)

To show some of things they have been doing in the classroom, they worked in groups to create chocolate websites using Google Sites.

To do something special for their parents, they created QR codes linked to the homepage of their website. They wrote a letter to their parents inviting them to look at their website and included the QR code for the parents to scan!

Here are the QR codes!
