Apps for Literacy

The following is a list of some of the apps that have been installed on the school iPads to assist the children with their literacy skills.

My Story
Lovely simple storybook creator for use in Reception up to year 2. Draw pictures, insert pictures from your camera roll, add simple text and record your voice telling the story and save as an eBook. Very easy to use for even the youngest children. Specifically designed for schools by providing author pictures on the start up screen so children can keep track of their own books within their own author page.
Book Creator
Slightly more detailed ebook creator app. Suitable from year 3 upwards. Insert text, photographs, videos, sound effects. Link to pages within the book and websites. Combine books to together. Save as PDF or video files or transfer to iBooks to read on your iPad. 
Word Salad
An easy to use, word cloud creator. Lots of different styles and colours to suit everyone. Save to your camera roll and enjoy! 
Comic Life
A must have for any school! Transform your photographs into creative comic strips. Build your own pages with speech bubbles, comic lettering and much more. This app can be used in so many different ways - retelling stories, capture a sports event and much more. 
Strip Designer
Children can impress their friends with their own personal comic strips! Great for use in language arts to show understanding of a poem or short story. Add photographs or other images and then add comic book style add ons such as balloons or stickers and text effects like POW!
Tools 4 Students
This is app great for literacy and use in Language Arts. There are 25 different templates in this edition to allow children to focus on parts of a book or story. For example, one template asks the children to explain what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story. Another template gets the children to pick out key events from a story and explain them. A great app for years 2 and above.
